Artist statement
Inspired by the intricate beauty of spiderwebs, my crocheted installations create a web of creativity which adapts to a space to transform them into captivating environments. Like a spider meticulously crafting its intricate webs, I meticulously crochet unique and delicate patterns which aim to take over spaces. The way the pieces stretch out into the space they are in creates an immersive experience, inviting the viewer to explore the tension between fragility and strength, control, and chaos. As you walk through, the carefully placed lighting casts mesmerizing shadows, illuminating the intricate details of each crochet piece. my pieces aim to give the viewer the experience of feeling the contrasting feelings of discomfort and comfort. Using the process of crocheting reflects the comfort of the piece as it imitates the look of crochet blankets, giving you the feeling of home and being in a comfortable place. This contrasts with the size and the placement of the piece which looks uneasy as if it is coming towards you which adds to the discomfort of the piece. The use of crocheted wire within my pieces aims to highlight the detail and intricacies in the process of crocheting, with the intention to showcase the artistic complexity of textiles art and crochet specifically, to people who may not have viewed it that way prior.
